My photos from my Music Magazine Photoshoot!

Here are some examples of the photos I took for the cover and inside my music magazine, I tried to use some of the shots and capture the essence of a typical music magazine in my photos.

TEXTUAL ANALYSIS OF A CONTENTS PAGE!

Textual Analysis of a Contents Page!

The title of the page isn't clearly labelled 'Contents Page' but instead 'Inside the mag...' this is more entertaining for the reader than just saying 'Contents Page' like most magazines do and is more appealing for younger girls because it is a simple sentence. The main colour scheme of pink and purple is continued into the contents page to like the whole magazine together this also links to the target audience of young girls because they are 'stereotypically' expected to relate and like the colour pink. The font of the title looks like handwriting which again suggests a younger audience who are still in school and therefore are able to relate to the handwriting font. The contents page is split into 6 different sections each with subheadings so the reader can clearly choose what they want to read about however having so many columns can make it look quite young and childish because there is less writing under each of the subheadings this again reflects the younger audience it it aimed at. There is brief sentence underneath each title to give the reader an idea of what every article is about. The smaller image of the front cover is used with arrows pointing to parts of the front cover and showing what page they are on so that they can quickly find the pages they feel that they are most interested in. The images of the clothes and shoes are samples to see if the reader likes then and of they do they can turn straight to that page to find out how to buy them. Various images of the famous artists and bands are dotted around the page in order to attract the reader because they can see that their favourite artist/ band is included in the magazine. The image of 'One Direction' boy band is included to appeal to young teenage girls. The yellow on the words suggests brightness and fun it is also used to highlight important parts of the text to attract the readers attention to it. The quote 'We love boys' suggests how young the audience is for the magazine. Overall, this contents page is very crowded with a lot going on.

Phoot Shoot Plan!

    Photo shoot plan

For my music magazine I will be shooting my friend Patsy Collison, I chose her as I believe she has a look which is quite typical of many of the young pop stars today such as Taylor Swift and is quite popular amongst teens i.e. blonde hair, green eyes.

When planning my shoot I will have to consider many factors including:

    - lighting
wardrobe i.e. costumes, hairstyles, make up, jewellery
    -location
    -camera angles
    -props

As they are vital to how the photos end up and how successful they are.

    Wardrobe

My magazine is focused on pop and chart music, I think my model should wear something modern and in fashion yet appropriate to the target audience this is important as she  is a role model and younger girls look up to her style and potentially look to copy it. She must also look natural and fresh faced which is popular look amongst teens as she is a relatively young girl also a lot of makeup will look harsh on camera and will also age her making her not as relatable. As she does have the same style and look as Taylor Swift, who is popular amongst young teens and is an excellent role model to young girls today, I will try to recreate the look and setting which can be seen in a lot of Taylor’s shoots which is outside in nature, which works well as a background as it isn’t busy and as empathises the natural beauty of t6he model as she will be in nature.  I would like her hair to be down where the wind can create a natural wind swept look making it look more natural but also adds a touch of glamour amongst the nature.

    Location

The location I have chosen will be in a local forest, it has loads of trees and a stream which really captures the nature look i'm going for. I have chosen this area because not only will it be naturally beautiful and will fit with the wardrobe I have chosen and type of photo I am trying to create but it also works as my magazine is all about music and big part of music is the summer festivals which are outside so I think this ties in with my theme as my magazine will be the festival edition. .

    Props

I want to use very few props as I think the pictures will be more effective if left to the natural beauty which is there. However, since it is focused around music I think using some headphones will empathize this further.

    Lighting

my location is outdoors so I will rely mostly on natural lighting. This will make things more difficult as the amount of lighting in one particular shot is out of my control and it may vary from photo to photo reducing consistency but I can always alter the photos on programmes such as Photoshop later.

    Camera Angles

For cover photo I would like it to be low angle mid shot showing the model and her clothing. Her stance should be confident and the use of direct address should not only exaggerate it but it should also help to capture the audience’s attention and almost invite them in to read the magazine.  I would like a full length photo for the double page spread, a longshot showing the model in full and really showing her style through the wardrobe chosen and one midshot possibly to keep in with the typical codes and conventions of a magazine los the model could be laughing in them to make her more relatable to the readers and show that she is like them and a normal girl.

Research into Photography...

Research into photography....

pho·tog·ra·phy

The art or practice of taking and processing photographs.

Photography is an art, science and practice of creating  images through  recording light or electromagnetic radiation, either chemically by using  a light-sensitive material such as photographic film or electronically by using an image sensor. A lens is often used to help to focus the light reflected. Photography uses different cameras, lenses, angles and lighting to create different effects.

A good website for photography includes:

I found this slideshow which has helped me with my research into Photography and has provided me with some inspiration and guidence when taking my photos.

One photogrpaher which I have researched is Angus McBean....

Angus McBean was born in South Wales in June 1904. His Father Clem McBean was a surveyor in the mines and the family moved frequently around Wales with his job. Fascinated by the apparently "magical properties" of photography, Angus wanted to be able to take pictures of people and sold a gold watch left to him by his grandfather to raise the five pounds necessary for the equipment.
here are some of his photos which I particularly enjoy...

As you can see his perferred style is black and white potraits usually using a mid shot.

Student Magazine Contents Page!

Student Magazine Contents Page!

Here is my school contents page, it is rather simple but i tried to keep in with the colour scheme of the front cover, the layout is simple but easy to read, please leave any comments for improvements which I can later apply to my music magazine.
